Conductor Alain Altinoglu has been appointed as Music Director of the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie assuming his new role in January 2016.

After several performances at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie, including Massenet’s Cendrillon in 2011, and many symphonic concerts with our orchestra, it is with great enthusiasm that La Monnaie welcome Maestro Alain Altinoglu into this long-term collaboration as their new Music Director.

Today Alain Altinoglu has become one of the most sought after conductors on the international circuit collaborating with major opera houses, including New York’s Metropolitan Opera (notably conducting a new production of Werther last season), the Wiener Staatsoper (Simon BoccanegraDon CarlosSalome) and the Staatsoper Berlin (Faust). In Zürich’s Opernhaus, as a regular guest, he most recently conducted a new production of Der Fliegende Holländer ; in Munich, a new production ofManon Lescaut ; in London at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Don Giovanni and in Summer 2015 he made his debut at the prestigious Bayreuth Festival. In March 2016 Alain Altinoglu will conduct a new production of Iolanta / Casse-noisette at the Paris Opera and next summer Alain Altinoglu will return to the Salzburg Festival conducting Don Giovanni.

On the symphony podium, Altinoglu regularly conducts the major international orchestras including Chicago Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, Orchestre National de France, Orchestre de Paris, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Orchestre National de Lyon, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Gothenburg Symphony, Staatskapelle Dresden, Staatskapelle Berlin, Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Bamberger Symphoniker, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Wiener Symphoniker, Radio-Symphonieorchester Wien, Tonhalle Orchester Zürich and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.
