Greater success if possible than the one two years ago. With works by Verdi, Bellini, Donizetti, Bizet, Rossini, Puccini, Massenet and Gounod duos were interpreted by 20 of Spanish singers – which according to someone they do not exist or they have no style – who gave the best of themselves that was much. Verdi, in honor of its bicentennial, occupied all the second part which began with the duo «Restate» between Felipe II and the Grand Inquisitor.
Breathtaking the interpretation of Juan Jesús Rodríguez – that was received with a standing ovation – and Amoretti. Formidable Juan Jesus. His is one of the greatest and only misses the projection in the most important theatres in the world. Along with the Soprano from Madrid, incomprehensibly forgotten in her land, they performed Rigoletto «Signor, ne Prince» in a sweeping way duo and a beautiful delicacy.
The Canary soprano Davinia Rodríguez along with Antonio Gandía performed the Duet from La Traviata verdiana «Perigi, or face», touching. There were all the feelings and emotions of this opera without scene, only with the wonderful singing of both artists. Ana Ibarra, fantastic mezzo, together with Juan de León sang «L´abborrita rival” from Aida, what a voices and way of singing, incredible.» The same mezzo intervened in the Carment duo «do c´esttoi?… c´este moi» together with the tenor Aquiles Machado. Amazing. And it closed this second part the Menorcan baritone Juan Pons, already out retired from the scene, along with Aquiles Machado a Duet from La forza del destino of Verdi. A luxury.
In the first part Ruth Rosique and Miguel Sola intervened with Don Pasquale with spark and genuine melancholy. Nogales and Manuel Lanza – again in race- “Dunque io son” from El Barbero de Sevilla, with intention and splendid shape. Ricardo Bernal and José. J. Frontal sang the beautiful Bizet’s Pearl fishers Duet «Au fond di tempe saint». exciting. Perhaps most sublime moment in this part was the intervention of soprano Yolanda Auyanet and mezzo Nancy Fabiola Herrera, both from Canary Islands, with the Bellini’s «Mira, o Norma». Amazing and spectacular. Ideal singers for these difficult roles belcantistas. We hope to see them together in the complete opera.
Lola Casariego together with Francisco Corujo, both voices soaring and in plenitude, sang a Duet of Manon by Massenet with precious drama and timbre. Manuel Lanza and Miguel angel Zapater triumphed with the duo of don Paquale «Cheti, chetti, inmantinente». And with Gounod’s Faust closed this part intervening Amoreti and Bernal.
Al piano were Isabel Barredo and Miguel Huertas. Splendid.
There was a fantastic double encore. First soprano Isabel Rey – Mother in Law of the charitable association – who had sung the final aria of Turandot, Liu, in impeccable shape and beautiful timbre devoted a very heartfelt words of tribute and thanks to Juan Pons. The applause not ceased, as with the final Fugue of Verdi Falstafft who all sang.
A great and important success which, of course, was held in our Teatro de La Zarzuela, where the Spanish singers are valued.
